digital experience plan
Pittsburgh International Airport
As the city of Pittsburgh continues to thrive, innovate, and reinvent itself, so does its airport. As part of Pittsburgh International Airport’s Terminal Modernization Program, the Gensler DXD team created a Digital Experience Plan that reimagines how technology is leveraged in the airport. We examined how digital can elevate the passenger’s experience through experiential and functional interventions to create a more calming, intuitive, and seamless journey.

IMMERSION & OPPORTUNITY ASSESSMENT
From hours of stakeholder interviews, site studies, and visitor research, I developed robust personas and visitor journey studies. I used these as a foundation for formulating experience goals, facilitating client workshops, and identifying key areas of opportunity across PIT’s landside and airside terminals.
EXPERIENTIAL INTERVENTIONS
The following are a few samples pulled from dozens of proposed digital interventions across the landside and airside terminals. These experiences were focused on creating grounding moments of calm for passengers in transit, connecting visitors to Pittsburgh’s arts and community, and providing an entertaining escape for visitors and passengers while they wait.
DIGITAL SIGNAGE
In addition to developing experiential opportunities, our team proposed a new vision for PIT’s digital signage system. Using PIT’s existing brand language as a base, we reimagined fresh ways to deliver wayfinding and promotional information with a new cohesive system that is glanceable and intuitive.
